Providing tailored and personalised care for each individual

Types of Fertility Investigations

  • What it involves
An ultrasound scan of the pelvis to assess the uterus and ovaries.

    What it helps assess
The structure of the womb, cavity of the womb, the appearance of the ovaries, and features such as cysts, endometrial polyps or fibroids.
The scan can also include an antral follicle count, which helps assess ovarian reserve.

    How it’s done
The scan is normally performed vaginally. This will be explained beforehand, and every effort is made to ensure comfort.

    What happens next
Findings are reviewed and discussed in context during consultation, alongside symptoms and other test results, to guide next steps.

  • What it involves
A specialised ultrasound procedure that uses a contrast fluid to check the patency of the fallopian tubes.

    What it helps assess
Whether the fallopian tubes are open and the shape of the womb, which can be important when investigating fertility.

    How it’s done
The procedure is performed using ultrasound guidance. A small amount of contrast fluid is introduced into the womb while the scan is carried out. Most women experience mild to moderate discomfort, and it is usually well tolerated.

    What happens next
The findings are reviewed alongside other results and discussed during a follow up consultation to help guide next steps.

  • What it involves
A laboratory test that examines a semen sample to assess sperm parameters.

    What it helps assess
Sperm count, movement, and shape, which can help identify male fertility factors that may affect the chance of conceiving.

    How it’s done
A semen sample is collected then analysed in a laboratory according to recognised standards. Clear instructions are provided in advance to ensure accurate results.

    What happens next
Results are explained in context during consultation, and any further investigations or options are discussed if appropriate.

Types of Gynaecology Services

MyoSure passing through womb during hysteroscopy
  • What it involves
A detailed consultation to discuss medical history, symptoms, and any previous investigations or treatments. An ultrasound scan can be offered and performed during the clinic appointment.

    What it helps assess
Factors that may be contributing to fertility or gynaecological concerns, allowing an individualised assessment.

    How it works
Time is taken to understand your concerns, answer questions, organise any scans or blood tests, discuss options, and plan for next steps.

    What happens next
A personalised plan is discussed, which may include reassurance, further investigations, or treatment options if appropriate.

  • What it involves
A procedure that allows direct visual assessment of the cavity of the womb using a fine camera passed through the cervix.

    What it helps assess
The shape and lining of the womb, and the presence of abnormalities such as polyps or fibroids that may affect fertility or bleeding.

    Diagnostic Hysteroscopy (with Endometrial Biopsy)

    How it’s done
A hysteroscopy is performed to examine the womb cavity. In some cases, a small sample of the womb lining (endometrial biopsy) may be taken for further assessment. Hysteroscopy can be done under general or local anaesthesia.

    What happens next
Findings and biopsy results are discussed in consultation to guide further management if required.

    Operative Hysteroscopy (MyoSure® Resection)

    How it’s done
During hysteroscopy, a MyoSure® device may be used to remove a polyp or fibroid from within the womb under direct vision. This allows targeted treatment while preserving surrounding tissue.

    What happens next
The procedure findings are reviewed including histology and photos taken during the procedure are discussed during follow up consultation.

  • Laparoscopy

    What it involves
A minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses a small camera inserted through a tiny incision to examine the pelvis and abdominal organs.

    What it helps assess
The uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and surrounding structures, and conditions such as endometriosis, adhesions, or tubal problems that may affect fertility.

    How it’s done
The procedure is performed under general anaesthetic using small incisions. Recovery is around two weeks.

    What happens next
Findings are reviewed and discussed during follow-up, and further management is planned if required.
